Primary Election, Tuesday May 6!
Thank you to everyone who voted Green in the May Primary! We made history by being the first minor party in history to successfully put a gubernatorial candidate on the state wide ballot through a write in vote in a primary. This fall, please vote for Anita Rios and Bob Fitrakis for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, the Green Party Line! Wood County also established itself as the Greenest County in the state, per capita we have a higher percentage of Green voters than any other state.
As Chair of the Wood County Green Party, I have to comment on the current primary election and the state of Democracy in Ohio. Most people don’t know that there is a primary happening right now. (Early voting at the BOE goes until May 3, and the primary is Tuesday, May 6.) Most Ohioans also don’t know that the only way to join a political party is to ask for that party’s ballot in this primary. But, everyone is unhappy with the choices we are offered in November. These three facts are related.
One of the Greens’ Ten Key Principles is Grassroots Democracy. We believe a democratic government works when everyone participates, puts forward their best ideas, and then the people pick. This doesn’t happen when only a tiny minority of the people know or care that there is an election. In that situation, an even tinier group of people get to take control of the entire government. In my opinion, the reason the ordinary parties don’t make a big deal about primaries is that it is much easier to control smaller numbers of people. As long as the primary voters and party members are limited to those who are "in the know," it is easy to control the results.
We Greens do not believe in doing things the "easy" way. Democracy is
supposed to be messy and out of control of the elites. When it works, passions run high and people debate. But, in the end we all have to have enough faith in each other to agree that a majority of us will make the right decision.
That’s why I urge everyone to vote in this coming primary, and join the
political party of your choice. I understand that some people do not want to
join the Green party (yet :)). But the current situation, where most people are so disillusioned that they are not members of any party and so can’t choose leaders or shape policies is undemocratic, and we need a strong Democracy.
If you do choose to ask for a Green Party ballot, please write in the names
for our candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor, Anita Rios and Bob Fitrakis. If we can get more than 500 write in votes for them, they will be on the ballot in November, and we can finally offer people an alternative to the two ordinary parties.

2013 Bowling Green City Council Race
Opposing Nuclear Power
On Tuesday, October 15, Joe will be speaking at an event organized by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to be held at Levi's Commons from 5 to 9 PM. The government wants to relieve the utility companies of the responsibility for the nuclear waste they have generated. So, they want to use trucks on regular highways to transport the incredibly dangerous and deadly nuclear wastes from the nuke plants to "interim" storage sites around the country. Once the waste leaves the grounds of the utility companies, it becomes the responsibility of the U.S. taxpayer and the companies that generated it are off the hook. This plan is a disaster. There will be accidents, and parts of our nation will become uninhabitable, just like Fukushima and Chernobyl. The Obama administration is pushing this terrible plan because no new nuclear reactors can be licensed until a "solution" to nuclear waste is found. Please come on the 15th to stop this "Mobile Chernobyl" plan.
WBGU Candidate Forum
On October 23, the four at-large candidates met in a head to head forum live and on the air. It went very well. WBGU will soon have the entire forum posted on their website.
League of Extraordinary Women Voters Forum 10/13/13

Black Swamp Festival
The Black Swamp Festival went great! We talked with hundreds of people who were very interested in an alternative to the two "ordinary" Parties.
Wood County Fair!
From July 29 to August 5, Joe's campaign and the Wood County Green party had a booth at the Wood County Fair! It went great. Thanks to fantastic volunteers, we had full coverage for the entire fair. Thanks to everyone who helped.
Joe on TV!
In June, WTOL ran an editorial against wind power. It was full of misinformation and downright falsehoods. At the end, they invited responses from "pro-wind" people and Joe took them up on it. Here's his response: http://www.toledonewsnow.com/story/22687267/guest-editorial-wind-energy-rebuttal
